Daniel Komezusenge appointed to chair Commonwealth Youth Council
Commonwealth Youth Council (CYC) members have appointed Rwanda’s Higher learning Institution Students Union leader, Daniel Komezusenge to chair the committee.
The CYC committee comprises of nine individuals from different Commonwealth countries responsible for approving members and affiliate observers of the Council who review applications and submitting recommended applicants to the executive for consideration.
According to the statement from CYC this January, 2014 Komezusenge was selected basing on Article 9, item No.2 of the CYC Constitution.
In his reaction, Komezusenge appreciated the position to lead the committee saying it demonstrates a high level of trust and confidence the Council has in Rwanda.
Komezusenge said the opportunity will allow him to present to the table the interests of Rwanda youth in the Commonwealth.
The committee has a mandate of two years. Komezusenge is deputised by Vanessa Picker, from Australia.
Other members on the committee are from Solomon Island, Zambia, St Lucia, Papua New Guinea, Sri Lanka, Malta and Maldives.
The membership committee is one of the executive platforms in the CYC with its headquarters in the United Kingdom.
Over 60 per cent of the Commonwealth is young people under the age of 30 years.
The Commonwealth Youth Council engages the the young people in a coordinated and structured manner, so as to unlock the vast potential inherent in them.
Presently, the Commonwealth is composed of 53 member countries. The Commonwealth of Nations, commonly known as the Commonwealth is an intergovernmental organisation of countries, most of them former Britain colonies.
Rwanda joined commonwealth on November 29, 2009.
